St George's day celebrations 2019
29/04/2019 By Kirsty Aldridge

A big thank you for all those Groups who came to the St George’s Activity Day at Edgbarrow yesterday, and who set up and ran their activity bases. We had over 1/3 of the District there and it was a great sight seeing everyone lined up in the sun with their flags whilst we renewed our scouting promises.

Unfortunately we still had 2 Groups that couldn’t make it but I hope that we can get 100% turn out in future years!

Those Beavers, Cubs and Scouts (and Explorers) that took part all appeared to have a great time. So well done for some really good and varied activity bases.  These included:

  • Rope bridge
  • Pioneering obstacle course
  • Da Vinci bridge building
  • Memory game
  • Naturalist badge work
  • Blind fold trail
  • Stepping stones in the woods
  • Tin can alley and hoop la challenge
  • Kit car racing & and sailing regatta in drain pipes
  • BBQ and refreshments (for World Scout Jamboree and Project Africa fund raising)
  • Knot making
  • Mystery riddle in the woods (“What Noise Annoys an Oyster”)
  • Short wood land hike (without a map!)

Also a big thank you to the organisers; Pam Pearce, Brenda Davies, Phil Hart, Megan Currie and Dave Fletcher.  A great effort when organising something a bit different from previous years.  We shall be meeting for a wrap up session to look at possible improvements and determine if/how we should repeat this again for next year.  So any feedback you might have would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks again

Graeme (District Commissioner)
